Planets As Phases Of Development

The inner planets, (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus & Mars) describe your core identity, character, temperament; the unique way that you think, feel and will. They reveal how your energy works, what motivates, interests and excites you, what feeds you, what gives you hope and happiness. By analyzing the position and dynamics between these planets we can see areas where you flow naturally and are innately talented, as well as places where you feel blocked from realizing your potential. This phase begins at birth and culminates around age 21.

The middle planets (Jupiter & Saturn) reveal you as a social being; how you relate to others and the world, find your place among your peers, choose a career and develop responsibility. This middle sphere also shows how you make meaning, form values, develop a religious or philosophical orientation in life. These planets show the maturing phase of our individuality and culminate when Saturn returns to its natal position at 28-30 years of age.

The outer planets (Uranus, Neptune & Pluto) indicate the journey of individual initiation and reveal what part we’re destined to play in the larger world. Most of us reach the end of our personal growth when we achieve the stability of Saturn. This is, in truth, a significant achievement! Uranus indicates where we step out from what the world expects of us and we dare to become something new, something completely original. It is where we discover our genius and are called to be exceptional. Neptune is where we step out of the materialistic model of the world and cultivate a transcendent vision of spiritual wholeness. It is where the self can lose itself in either mystery or mayhem. The Pluto initiation reflects a stage of development that occurs when one reaches the limits of our own personal power. We are often confronted by a major loss or death that we can’t push through unscathed. If one recognizes the need at this time to transform the lower ego and submit to a higher power, then Pluto brings major transformation, rebirth and powerful spiritual assistance. We don’t typically encounter the full power of the outer planets until age 30 and onward and their benevolent potency requires conscious effort. If one doesn’t meet the challenges for awakening represented by the outer planets, these forces can bring chaos, despair and dissolution of all our efforts.

Today the earth is shifting into a new consciousness; evolution is accelerating and the stakes are very high. We are crossing a threshold where we need to transcend the limited, materialistic thinking that has brought our earth to a crisis point. It is time to develop the higher capacities of Imagination, Inspiration and Intuition. The outer planets of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto represent 3 higher thresholds that mankind is crossing as we work to transform ourselves and heal our world. The two endeavors go hand in hand.
